Hook up car amp to pc power supply

The rails are most the time always 12v if not 14v is the max that most amps can handle. I personally use my laptop as a source a lot so this works best for me.

If you recently switched vehicles and have no room for that big subwoofer in your new car, don't give it or throw it away. The amount it pulls will also be determined by how you've wired your speakers and will increase with a higher output level and gain. Posted on Monday, September 17, -

P and yeah then I want to use that equipment in my car and just buy the necessary extras that I need for the car. I used zip ties so they weren't a mess. This setup certainly has a kick to it, great for parties. Now connect one 1 black wire any from your PC PS to the negative -, or ground terminal of your car power amplifier.

How to power a car amplifier with a laptop charger

I have a watt Sony Xplod car amp and a 12v 34ah power supply. Someone has said that CCA is what you want to look for on a car battery this is incorrect as Cold Cranking Amps are for when the car is cold and you try to start the engine its designed for a very short duration while keeping a voltage of 12V, the actual battery usage you need to look at is measure in Ah these are usually much smaller then the CCA and are the rating you can safety continuously draw from a car battery.

Note the green ps-on terminal for both 20 and 24pin ATX connectors. Steve New member Username: Sam Evans New member Username: You may be thinking "wait, don't cars have speakers that don't run through an amp?

The reason is a remote terminal is the secondary power source required to turn on an amplifier, if you stupidly and I mean stupidly run a jumper from the remote terminal on your amp to the hot positive, your amp will never shut off and eventually drain your cars battery, and even worse if you have a cheap amplifier like boss or pyle, which are not cea compliant, I have seen the terminals with a jumper ran from the remote to positive actually melt, and even cause damage to components.

Use electrical tape to bundle them together exposing their strip ends on one side.

But when I get it together, i'll post it up here for everyone to see. The best solution is to convert a computer power supply CPS to work at 12v DC and deliver high amounts of amperage.
